Hildburghausen (dpa / th) - About a third of the eligible children, teachers and educators took part in the large-scale Corona rapid tests for schools and kindergartens in the Hildburghausen district.

The district office named the number of 2418 people tested after the test was completed on Friday.

About 9,000 people had been asked to take part in the voluntary tests.

These had started on Tuesday, two dozen test teams, including from the Bundeswehr and the German Red Cross (DRK) were on site.

In the district on the border with Bavaria, due to the high number of infections, there is currently a regional lockdown with strict contact and exit restrictions, a ban on gatherings and stricter mask requirements.

Schools and kindergartens are closed.

For days, the district was the region in Germany with the highest seven-day value for new corona infections. On Friday the value was a good 414. This means that the municipality is still among the top nationwide.
