During his interview with Brut, Friday, the head of state ruled that "part of our history is not represented" in the statues and the names of streets.

Emmanuel Macron thus said he was in favor of new statues and renaming the streets, but without giving names.

During his interviews with Brut, the Head of State returned to the debunking of statues, envisaged or carried out last summer, in parallel with the anti-racist demonstrations which followed, in France, the death of George Floyd.

Emmanuel Macron said he did not believe in "cancel culture" but recognized that more representation was needed for "a whole part of our collective history".

"There has been this whole debate on statues. I do not believe in 'cancel culture'. However, what is true is that there is a whole part of our collective history that is not not represented, "said Emmanuel Macron.

The president said he was in favor of new statues being erected and certain streets being renamed.
