Düsseldorf / Monheim (dpa / lnw) - In the dispute over the use of the ice rink in front of the Monheim town hall during the corona pandemic, a compromise has been negotiated for the coming days: the entire track can be used by one or two people or members of a single household be used.

District Administrator Thomas Hendele and Mayor Daniel Zimmermann agreed on this, the city announced on Friday.

This means that families can continue to register for the ice rink with their children and then have the ice rink for 20 minutes to themselves.

Two children from two households are also allowed to use the area for group meetings.

The city is extending its opening times backwards - until 8 p.m.

The district of Mettmann had instructed that the ice rink could only be used for school sports because of the corona epidemic.

He considers the operation as a leisure facility to be incompatible with the applicable Corona Protection Ordinance.

The city had brought an action against this instruction before the administrative court in Düsseldorf.

The district now wants to submit the proposal from Monheim's mayor to only allow the railway for a maximum of one household to be submitted to the Ministry of Health for evaluation, as it was said.

Until the ministry's decision, the district will not prevent the operation of the ice rink.

Following instructions from the district, Mayor Zimmermann said that the city had done everything with a hygiene concept, a mask requirement and admission for a maximum of 20 children to give children a few hours of outdoor exercise on the ice rink in the run-up to Christmas and until the end of the school holidays enable".

That this should be forbidden while children can be together indefinitely on all playgrounds is absurd.

Other cities, on the other hand, do without their ice rinks at Christmas time in the Corona year - including the state capital with the popular area on Düsseldorf's Königsallee.
