European negotiator Michel Barnier announced on Friday evening that the conditions for a post-Brexit deal were not met.

Discussions had started all this week in London, in the presence of the British Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission.

The conditions for a post-Brexit deal between the EU and the UK "have not been met" due to "significant differences", despite a week of intensive discussions in London, European negotiator Michel Barnier announced Friday evening on Twitter.

After one week of intense negotiations in London, together with @DavidGHFrost, we agreed today that the conditions for an agreement are not met, due to significant divergences on level playing field, governance and fisheries.

Negotiators agreed to "take a break" from discussions.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will "take stock" of the discussions on Saturday afternoon, he added.
