Berlin / Zwickau (dpa / sn) - According to the Zwickau member of the Bundestag Sabine Zimmermann (Left), people with disabilities are generally more affected by unemployment and poverty.

"We are still a long way from an inclusive labor market in Saxony," she said on International Day of People with Disabilities on Thursday.

In November, 8361 severely disabled people are unemployed.

The rate compared to October was roughly the same, while overall unemployment fell slightly by 1.6 percent in this period.

"The legally regulated employment rate of severely disabled people of 5 percent was not met by employers with only 4.1 percent in the current reporting year 2018," said the left-wing politician.

It was 3.4 percent in the private sector and 6.2 percent in the public sector.

“Good work must become the norm for people with disabilities,” said Zimmermann, calling for better conditions on the labor market.

The federal government must, among other things, increase the mandatory quota for employing people with disabilities from five to six percent, but also the equalization tax.

"I appeal to employers to give more people with disabilities a chance, who are often well qualified and highly motivated."
