Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In Brandenburg, more and more schools want to be better equipped technically.

By the end of November, 430 applications for federal funding from the digital pact totaling over 85 million euros had been received, as the Ministry of Education announced on Thursday.

Of these, 134 applications with funding totaling 18.4 million euros were approved.

A month earlier, according to the information, there were 327 applications with a total volume of more than 58 million euros.

Of these, 99 applications with a funding volume of around 12.7 million euros were approved.

The deadline for registration had been extended to the end of the year due to the Corona crisis.

"By setting up the digital infrastructure in schools, for example by installing the school's own WLAN or purchasing digital boards - so-called smart boards - digital learning for pupils and teachers in their schools is decisively improved," said Education Minister Britta Ernst ( SPD).

There are around 900 schools in Brandenburg.

When the schools were closed in March due to the Corona crisis, lessons often continued online, but it was not always possible because the internet connection or the technical device was missing.

The digital pact for schools from federal funds is intended to provide digital equipment for schools and mobile devices.

The federal government is making five billion euros available over a period of five years, including 3.5 billion euros in this electoral term.

The federal government provided 16.8 million euros for mobile devices in Brandenburg.

The money is to be used in particular to procure equipment for schoolchildren who otherwise do not have them at home.

According to the Ministry, funding had been requested for 809 schools by the end of September, and around 16.4 million euros have already been paid out.
