  • The Dervallières swimming pool will have an additional, covered pool.

  • The Durantière swimming pool will benefit from a major renovation.

  • A 50 m pool must also be delivered near the Marcel-Saupin stadium.

This is one of the main expenses at the start of the mandate.

No less than 27 million euros of investment devoted to sports equipment will be put to the vote of the elected officials of the Nantes municipal council this Friday.

The most important part will go to improving swimming conditions, the pools being saturated throughout the metropolis.

Two swimming pools are mainly affected by this expenditure: that of Dervallières and that of Durantière.

Nestled since 1966 in the Chézine valley, the Dervallières swimming pool has the originality of being the only open-air one in the Nantes area.

An asset that becomes a handicap when the good weather fades, the equipment and its diving boards being closed nine months out of twelve.

To compensate, a new 25 m pool (six water lines) will be created by 2025. A major renovation of the outdoor pools and changing rooms is also planned.

The work will begin at the end of 2023. "This project will make it possible to meet the important needs of schools west of Nantes", explains Ali Rebouh, deputy mayor in charge of sports, recalling that "the creation of new swimming pools is part of the promises of the new mandate ”.

As for the Durantière swimming pool, which dates from 1975, it will have to undergo a "heavy renovation operation".

Objective: improve the thermal performance of the building and improve accessibility for disabled people, as well as emergency services.

The swimming pool will therefore close for seven months starting next summer.

Reopening expected in January 2022.

In the open air over 50 m in Saupin and Léo-Lagrange

In addition, on the sidelines of the municipal council, the city of Nantes confirmed this Thursday the creation in 2023 of a new swimming pool in the Euronantes district, on the edge of the Marcel-Saupin stadium.

It will be a 50 m Nordic pool, heated and fully uncovered.

The equipment, included in a real estate program, will be accessible to associations and the general public.

Work begins in 2021.

For its part, the Léo-Lagrange swimming pool (Gloriette), the only one to date with a 50m pool, will be modernized by 2025-2026.

In this context, part of the roof will be dismantled in order to discover one of the two basins, as at its origin.

Finally, a second swimming pool is due to open in Orvault in 2024 and the people of Nantes, like the Herblinois, will benefit from access slots.
