Darmstadt (dpa / lhe) - IG Metall is calling for warning strikes in view of the planned job cuts at Continental in Babenhausen.

The negotiations for a social wage agreement for the employees remained without a result, the union announced on Thursday.

"We will therefore call on employees to go on warning strikes from tomorrow morning to make it clear to management that they have to give up their blockade and start serious negotiations on a social collective agreement," said Daniel Bremm, second authorized representative of IG Metall Darmstadt.

The warning strikes are planned on Friday from 5 a.m. and 1 p.m.

At Continental, as part of the “Transformation 2019-2029” program, at least 30,000 jobs are to be relocated, canceled or converted for new qualifications - including 13,000 in Germany, including plant closings in Aachen and Karben.

For the Babenhausen plant, Continental announced last year that it would end production there of control instruments for cars by 2025.

According to earlier information, more than 2000 jobs are affected there.

It was only on Wednesday that IG Metall announced that talks with Continental had been ended for the time being at a central level.

The group had shown no interest in preventing the announced mass layoffs, she justified her move.
