Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - With a new special program, the Hessian state government wants to promote the energetic renovation of residential buildings.

"More than 80 percent of the energy consumption in Hessian private households is currently due to heating," said Economics and Energy Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) at the presentation of the program on Thursday in Wiesbaden.

"We want to change that."

The state already provides around 24 million euros in subsidies for energy-efficient renovations.

The “special program for private homes” should add a total of 25 million euros over the next two years.

According to the ministry, up to 50 percent of the costs for thermal insulation, new windows, heating or ventilation systems could be covered in future.

The aim is to double the renovation rate of residential buildings in Hesse from one to two percent per year by 2025.
