Dettelbach (dpa / lby) - Customs officers have caught cigarette smugglers.
During a check in Dettelbach (Kitzingen district) the officials found more than 13,000 cigarettes in a van on Wednesday night, as the customs announced on Thursday.
The tobacco products that had been hidden under the back row of seats and in a cool box were secured.
Criminal tax proceedings were initiated against the 51-year-old driver.
In November, a total of more than 50,000 cigarettes were seized in Lower and Upper Franconia - more than double the amount that would otherwise be usual in a month, said a spokeswoman.
