A 25-year-old man was accidentally killed on Wednesday near the village of Calvignac, in the Lot, by gunfire from a group of hunters.

The shooter, who believed to identify a boar, was taken into police custody on Thursday and could be brought in on Friday.

The shooter "was not alcoholic," he said.

33-year-old man taken into custody

A 33-year-old Frenchman was in police custody on Thursday and could be referred on Friday, depending on the findings of the investigation which was continuing on the spot Thursday afternoon. 

The victim was "100 meters from his home", in the hamlet of La Garrigue, said Didier Burg, the mayor of Calvignac, a village built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Lot.

The beaten was authorized, specified the mayor.

Reacting to this "dramatic accident", the president of the Departmental Federation of Hunters of the Lot, André Manié, presented his "sincere condolences" to the family of the victim, adding that the organization "will continue and redouble its efforts for more. better train and sensitize hunters to practice safe hunting ".

"The investigation conducted by the gendarmerie will determine the exact circumstances of this accident," said Mr. Manié in a statement released Thursday.

For her part, the Secretary of State for Biodiversity, Bérangère Abba, reacted on Twitter, hoping that the investigation would shed "all light on the circumstances of this tragedy".
