A group of supporters of Rugby Club Toulonnais, "Les fils de Besagne", proposed Tuesday the creation of a "Christophe Dominici trophy", in tribute to the former French winger, who tragically died last week at the age of 48 years.

In a press release, "The sons of Besagne" explain that they want this award "to be brought into play on the occasion of each match played between Rugby Club Toulonnais and Stade Français Paris", the only two professional clubs where the player has played to 67 selections.

"The elusive winger, the kid is gone but he remains in our hearts and we want his two clubs to come together each season around the same sporting spirit, that of the + Christophe Dominici Trophy +. This trophy put back into play each season, would be won by the best of the two teams, namely the one with the most field points at the end of the two regular season matches, ”explain the supporters of the Var club.

"We want to believe that each season, players, management and supporters of both clubs will come together around the values he embodied", add the authors of the press release, who salute in Dominici the "kid of the harbor, instinctive, fiery and rough player "and the" last great lord of the oval ".

"We call on Messrs Bernard Lemaître and Thomas Lombard, presidents of the two clubs, and more broadly all the energies of the world of rugby to follow us in this project," they still write.

The Stade Français and Toulon face each other on Sunday in the Top 14 and the "Sons of Besagne" say they hope that the match scheduled at the Stade Jean-Bouin "will be the first counting for the + Christophe Dominici + Trophy".

Dominici, who marked the history of rugby with his successes with the XV of France (67 selections, 25 tries, 4 victories in the Tournament including 2 Grand Slams, finalist in the 1999 World Cup) as at the Stade Français (5 Boucliers de Brennus) died suddenly on Tuesday, at the age of 48, when he fell from an elevated road on the outskirts of Saint-Cloud park.

Born in Toulon, Dominici also wore the colors of the Var club from 1993 to 1997.
