Cologne (dpa) - The German men's handball cup competition 2020/21 is completely canceled due to the corona pandemic.

This was announced by the Handball Bundesliga HBL on Wednesday on its website.

“It is therefore certain that in 2021, for the first time in the history of the DHB Cup, there will be no title holder in this competition,” the message said.

Since 1993, the German Cup has ended with a Final 4 tournament consisting of a semi-final and a final.

The Final4 for the DHB Cup 2020 is on the 5th / 6th.

The tournament was originally supposed to take place in the Hanseatic city at the beginning of April, but was due to the pandemic on 28/29.

In the semifinals in June, MT Melsungen will meet TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and TBV Lemgo Lippe will meet the German champions THW Kiel.

Hamburg has hosted the final rounds since 1994.
