Demmin (dpa / mv) - The Association of Young Europeans starts an aid transport for the last time on Thursday under the chairmanship of the association's founder Siegfried Logall.

A transporter with a special permit brings gifts for needy children to Stettin (Szczecin), said the 68-year-old.

At the end of the year Logall, who received the Order of Merit of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2011, hands over his office to a teacher at the Pestalozzi-Europa-Schule in Demmin.

Despite the corona pandemic, the young Europeans managed to set up three aid transports this year.

Exceptions have been granted for this.

With the last one, gift bags with toys and sweets were sent to a clinic for children with cancer and to schools in Szczecin.

With the support of his wife, he packed a total of 1,000 gift bags for the Advent campaign.

Two daycare centers in Brunn in the Mecklenburg Lake District and the children's clinic in Neubrandenburg also benefited from this.

The association became known above all for aid transports to Lithuania, where it supports two children's hospitals and social stations in the cities of Kursenai and Siauliai with donations in kind, which it asks companies for.

This year, too, the young Europeans sent medical equipment such as electronic clinical thermometers and blood pressure monitors, but also winter clothing, to the children's clinic in Kursenai by air freight.

The association has had a friendly relationship with the city for years.

The help is possible, although according to Logall the willingness to donate has fallen by 80 percent this year.

As in previous years, the association received a larger sum of money from a Rostock donor.

Some manufacturers made toys available, including dolls from Bavaria and clothing.
