Bremen / Düsseldorf (dpa / lni) - Two out of three finalists in the research category for the German Sustainability Award come from the state of Bremen: the “Urban Pergola” project by four students from the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences and the “Loopsai” software from the University of Bremen.
The German Sustainability Award will be presented in an online event on December 4th with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
“Loopsai” is about sustainable management with the help of artificial intelligence in order to reduce food waste.
The central idea of the Bremerhaven students is green roofs in cities with climbing plants on steel cables and nets.
“Urban Pergola” offers an easy-to-implement, inexpensive and flexible solution to solve several problems at once, according to the jury's statement.
Cities heated up in summer could not only be cooled with the green grids, the air quality would also be improved, CO2 emissions would be reduced and biodiversity would be increased, the jury explained.
