Potsdam (dpa / bb) - As a consequence of demonstrations by opponents of corona measures with many participants without a mask, Brandenburg's SPD parliamentary group leader Erik Stohn has proposed an upper limit for meetings.

"We just have to recognize that because these demos are not adhered to, there is a great risk of infection," said Stohn in Potsdam on Tuesday.

It must be about measures with which health protection and freedom of assembly could be reconciled.

"It doesn't work the way things are going at the moment."

The SPD parliamentary group leader suggested limiting the number of participants per square meter for demos and pointed out that such a model also applies to customers in shops. "You can also introduce a general upper limit," said Stohn. There is currently no limit to the number of participants for meetings. Those who take part must, however, keep a minimum distance and mask requirement. Previously, SPD internal politician Inka Gossmann-Reetz had asked Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) to intensify controls on compliance with the corona rules by the police.
