SVT Nyheter has asked about ten Scanian tattoo artists how it went during the pandemic.

The answers can best be described as mixed.

Some have taken a real hit while others have toughened up about as usual, but with some changes in routines.

One of them is Joel Åkesson, who owns a tattoo parlor in central Malmö.

- I still have bookings five days a week until March / April, but then there are certainly many of them who will cancel, he says.

Strict hygiene routines

Most tattooists also mention that they already have strict hygiene routines, and that the change of routines during the pandemic has therefore not been so difficult.

- We only do what we have done.

Plastic everything, spray everything after each customer, try to be as clean as possible.

Just do it better simply, says Joel Åkesson.

"Some have had to take two or three extra jobs"

Inge Norlin is chairman of the professional organization Sweden's Registered Tattooists, his experience is that the pandemic has hit different tattooists differently.

- Some have barely noticed it while others have had to take two or three extra jobs, he says.
