In February, SVT Nyheter Skåne reported that the city of Malmö has invested almost half a million kronor in producing the sound of Malmö.

It would be used for marketing purposes on a broad front.

But the result has been meager, something that Swedish Radio was the first to tell.

So far, the expensive audio files have only been used on one occasion.

It is in a commercial for the Social Managers' Days in Malmö next year.

- We would have liked the audio files to come out on a wider front, but we have been incredibly preoccupied with the pandemic, says Nicklas Sjöqvist, press manager in the city of Malmö.

Very quiet

It has been ten months since the new sound identity was launched.

The purpose was that the city's communication would become clearer and could be used in, among other things, nursing homes, bus stops and in parks.

That did not happen.

According to the municipality's press manager, the pandemic has had great significance because the sound is no longer used.

- We at the city office are responsible for this, but we have been incredibly busy with other things during the pandemic.

But we will make more of our brand with our logo, our graphics and our audio files in the future, says Nicklas Sjöqvist.

What does "future" mean?

- I can not say that but the audio files will be used.

The silence in the library was one of the sounds recorded by the communications agency that was commissioned to produce Malmö's sound identity.

Now, a year later, the sound is complete.
