Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The red-green Hamburg Senate and the unions want to pull together to contain the corona pandemic.

This was confirmed by Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) and DGB state chairwoman Katja Karger after a video conference with the leaders of the Hamburg trade unions on Monday evening.

"The corona pandemic presents us with major tasks that we can better cope with together," said Tschentscher.

With the possibility of short-time working, a central instrument had already been created "to secure income and maintain jobs," he emphasized.

"In addition to the numerous emergency aid from the federal and state governments, we need to develop long-term prospects beyond Corona in order to secure standards for good work and the future viability of our economy."

Karger emphasized the problems of employees in the Corona crisis, which ranged from “job loss, a lack of prospects on the labor market, loss of income due to short-time work, protection of one's own health to a lack of home office regulations”.

It is thanks to “the huge sums that the federal government and city are spending to stabilize companies and the labor market” that we have come through the crisis reasonably well, ”said the DGB boss.

But the money does not always reach the employees.

"That is why we need even more targeted help: For example for those who can no longer cope with a minimal short-time allowance in the expensive city."
