Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met King Abdullah of Jordan, within a tour that also includes Egypt, to discuss all the recent developments.

The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) stated that the summit meeting between Abbas and Abdullah II began on Sunday in the Jordanian city of Aqaba to consult on developments on the Palestinian arena, and a number of issues of common concern.

President Abbas - according to the Palestinian Agency - expressed his gratitude to the Jordanian king for his stances in support of Palestine's position, and the rights of its people to freedom and independence.

The President affirmed that these supportive positions, the latest of which is the king’s affirmation of the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the importance of continuing to strive towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace, confirm the depth of relations between the two leaderships and the two brotherly peoples.

For his part, the Jordanian king reiterated his country's firm stance in support of the Palestinian cause and its permanent standing by the Palestinian people.

Abbas left the Palestinian territories on an Arab tour that includes Jordan and Egypt, which is his first since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in early March.

The Palestinian presidency announced that the tour aims to inform the Jordanian King and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi about developments in the Palestinian arena in light of the difficult circumstances it has gone through in recent months.

Abbas’s tour comes about two weeks after the Palestinian Authority announced the return of security coordination with Israel, which was interrupted since May in protest against Israel's plan to annex 30% of the West Bank, represented by the strategic Jordan Valley.

The Minister of the Palestinian Civil Affairs Authority, Hussein al-Sheikh, announced Abbas’s actions yesterday, Saturday, through a post on his Twitter site, indicating that these two visits aim to "discuss the latest political, regional and international developments."

For his part, Diab al-Louh, Palestine’s ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the Arab League, declared that a summit meeting would bring Abbas and Sisi “an embodiment of permanent and continuous consultation and cooperation on various issues at the Arab, regional and international levels, at a very special time that the entire region is going through.”

The Palestinian ambassador indicated that the visit comes within the framework of "joint coordination between the two leaderships."

On the evening of Friday, Friday, a Palestinian source told Anadolu Agency - preferring not to be named - that the agenda of the tour includes Palestinian reconciliation, discussion of (political) arrangements with the new US administration, and the regional and international situation.

On November 10, the Palestinian President expressed his readiness to open a new page with the administration of US President-elect Joe Biden in order to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Palestinians have boycotted the Donald Trump administration since it recognized occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on December 6, 2017.
