The Presidency of the Republic called Michel Zecler, the music producer who was beaten up by the police, said the Elysee Palace on Sunday without further details, a call confirmed by the producer's lawyer.

According to franceinfo, which unveiled the call citing the entourage of Michel Zecler, the Elysee would have joined the producer on Saturday to hear from him and would have reminded him that for Emmanuel Macron, what he had experienced was "a shame" .

Macron comes out of the silence

Emmanuel Macron intervened on Friday evening in this case by denouncing, in a statement on Facebook, “the unacceptable aggression” of Michel Zecler by the police, “images that make us ashamed”.

He also called for an “exemplary” policy.

The day before, he had asked the Minister of the Interior to pronounce clear sanctions against the police officers responsible for this violence.

In the aftermath of a strong mobilization against the proposed comprehensive security law and against police violence, the four police officers accused of beating were brought to justice on Sunday at midday.

The prosecutor requested pre-trial detention for three of them.

Expected proposals

The police officers involved are the target of an investigation for "willful violence by a person holding public authority", with the aggravating circumstance of racism, and "forgery in public writing".

Emmanuel Macron also asked the government on Friday evening to quickly make proposals to him "to fight more effectively against all forms of discrimination" and to restore confidence between the French and the police.

Matignon is already working on these projects, in particular on the reform of the IGPN (the general inspectorate of the national police), the fight against discrimination, the initial and continuing training of police officers, their recruitment as well as the means of associating the population to police actions, according to a government source.
