"What is important is that we can celebrate Christmas in very good sanitary but also liturgical conditions, while seeking the right balance", he believes.

Celebrating Christmas "is important for us Catholics but not only", says Matthieu Rougé.

"All of our fellow citizens want to celebrate Christmas, and need the hope of Christmas to get through this difficult period."

"You have to trust us"

"We are engaged in the fight against the pandemic with all our heart", recalls the bishop, who defends the attitude of the Church, standing up against the gauge decided by the government.

“We like to speak with firmness and kindness,” he says.

Discussions underway to develop a new decree must now, according to him, "allow progress in the development of a relationship of trust.

"We are able to welcome well. We must trust us", insists Mgr Matthieu Rougé, returning to the feeling of injustice inspired by the 30-person gauge.

"Seeing that some could not return returned my heart," he says.
