Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia is still making the decision to relax the contact restrictions for Christmas and New Year's Eve.

The Ministry of Health said on Sunday evening that the further infection process must be awaited.

However, the aim is to enable a maximum of ten people to get together with friends and family over Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Hotel stays for visiting relatives could also be possible for Christmas and New Year's Eve - if the number of infections allowed.

In Thuringia, stricter contact restrictions and an expanded mask requirement apply from this Tuesday.

This emerges from the ordinance issued on Sunday evening with which Thuringia implements the nationwide appointments.

The partial lockdown with closed restaurants, hotels, cultural, leisure and sports facilities will be extended until December 20th.

Analogous to the federal-state resolution, with the beginning of the new week in Thuringia, meetings with friends, relatives and acquaintances are limited to a maximum of five people in their own household and in another household.

Children under 14 do not count.

Previously, there was an upper limit of ten people.

In addition, an extended mask requirement applies.

Mouth and nose protection must now be worn in all closed rooms with public traffic as well as in front of shops and parking lots.

With the exception of the workplace, a mask is now required in workplaces and factories, provided that a minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained.

This also applies to places open to the public in city centers and in the open air, where people are in confined spaces or not only temporarily.

Stricter rules also apply to how many people can shop in a store at the same time.

Up to an area of 800 square meters, one customer is allowed per 10 square meters;

Thuringia takes a special route during the Christmas holidays.

The Ministry of Education had already announced that the Free State is holding on to December 23 as the start of the holiday.

The federal and state governments had agreed on December 18 as the last day of school.

In Thuringia, however, older students from grade 7 should already stay at home from December 21st and receive distance lessons until January 10th.

In order to further reduce contacts, from December there will also be fixed daycare groups and fixed classes, each with dedicated educators and teachers.

In the Thuringian tier system, the facilities across the country will switch to yellow in December.

Red would mean complete closure.
