On Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan on the sidelines of the Conference of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is currently being held in the Nigerian capital Niamey.

Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that the Turkish minister praised Riyadh for hosting the G20 summit, which was held recently in Saudi Arabia via video technology, due to the measures of the Corona pandemic.

This is the first meeting between the Turkish foreign minister and his Saudi counterpart since the assassination crisis of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in his country's consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, in October 2018.

Ihsanoglu said in a tweet on the social networking site Twitter, that he had a "honest meeting" with his Saudi counterpart.

Davutoglu stressed the importance of relations between Ankara and Riyadh, and attached to his tweet, a picture of them greeting each other, "The strong partnership between Turkey and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not only benefit our countries, but our entire region."

The official attempt to mend relations between the two countries came after a phone call between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and King Salman bin Abdulaziz over the weekend.

It is noteworthy that relations between the two regional powers reached their lowest level after the killing of Khashoggi, and Ankara and Riyadh were also at loggerheads over policies related to the Libyan and Syrian conflicts.
