Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, called his Iranian counterpart Mohammed Jawad Zarif today, Saturday, as the Qatari minister expressed his country's condolences and condemnation of the assassination of the Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhri Zadeh.

According to a statement issued by the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman made a phone call with Zarif, in which the two ministers reviewed bilateral cooperation relations and issues of common interest.

During the call, the Qatari Foreign Minister expressed his country's strong condemnation of the bombing that took place in Tehran yesterday, which resulted in the killing of the head of the Research and Innovation Organization at the Iranian Defense Ministry, Mohsen Fakhri Zadeh, saying that it was "a clear violation of human rights."

Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman offered condolences for the killing of the Iranian scientist, stressing that "such steps will only contribute to pouring more fuel on the fire at a time when the region and the international community are searching for ways to reduce tension and return to the table of dialogue and diplomacy."

The Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs called for restraint and seeking radical solutions to the outstanding issues.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry statement added that Zarif, for his part, valued Qatar's position during the call, and affirmed the strength of the relations between the two countries.

And the Iranian Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that "armed terrorist elements attacked a car carrying Fakhri Zadeh on Friday afternoon, after which he was seriously injured, and then killed."

After the news was announced, Zarif tweeted, saying that "there is important evidence regarding Israel's involvement in the Zadeh assassination."
