Hildburghausen (dpa) - In the Thuringian district of Hildburghausen, currently nationwide Corona hotspot number one, the police have been deployed to the regional Corona test station.

A police spokeswoman said on Friday that the police learned about a call on social media to block the smear site through the district's assembly authority.

The police were there then, but a blockade could not be determined.

Who is behind this is initially unclear.

In the district on the border with Bavaria, as of Friday, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants increased to around 630 within one week (previous day: 602.9).

That is the highest value in Germany.

According to the district office, the number of active positive corona cases in the district with 63,000 inhabitants was 853 on Friday.

Since the middle of the week there has been a lockdown with strict restrictions on going out;

Schools and kindergartens have been closed since then.

Several hundred people protested in the city center on Wednesday evening.

According to the police, they marched through the streets singing; many did not wear mouth and nose protection.

The police eventually dispersed the crowd with the help of pepper spray.
