Suhl (dpa / th) - The party Citizens for Thuringia was founded on Friday evening in Suhl with nine founding members.

The 47-year-old Marco Fischer was elected chairman, as the party announced.

"The political orientation of the new party is ecologically liberal with the focus on environmental, health and economic policy," it said in the communication.

"The focus of the political work is the will to work out solutions together with all citizens and political actors in the competition for the best ideas for the benefit of the people."

Fischer is a former CDU member.

As a party, the citizens of Thuringia want to run in the state elections planned for April and move into the state parliament.

They appeared in the course of the government crisis after the election of the short-term Prime Minister Thomas Kemmerich (FDP), largely with votes from the AfD.

The citizens of Thuringia had opposed the stability agreement between the Left, SPD and Greens with the opposition CDU and the subsequent re-election of Bodo Ramelow (Left) and demonstrated against it.

"We have taken the first step," said party chairman Fischer after his election.

“Now we will rush into the election campaign so that we can successfully enter the state parliament.

And even if I do not run for office myself, as chairman I will support the party programmatically and organisationally through this election campaign. "
