Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The so-called “pandemic situation” for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is to be extended by another two months in the state parliament.

According to dpa information, the coalition of the CDU and FDP wants to submit a corresponding application together with the opposition from the SPD and the Greens this Friday.

With the determination of the medical emergency, the state government receives special rights in order to be able to fight the corona pandemic.

For example, medical equipment is likely to be confiscated.

The law in question caused a lot of debate in April. It provides extraordinary government powers in the event of a catastrophic development. After a break in the summer, the parties in the state parliament again declared the "pandemic situation" on November 1 due to the second corona wave - initially for four weeks. This time, the situation is to apply until the end of January, then the plenum meets again - and could possibly extend the situation again.
