Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The Greens questioned the future of the Saxony-Anhalt coalition before the threat of a higher radio broadcast by a majority of the CDU and AfD in the Magdeburg state parliament.

He could not imagine that a state treaty introduced by the state government with an announcement would not get a majority in parliament, said Greens state chief Sebastian Striegel on late Friday evening at a digital state party conference.

It is unacceptable that the CDU «together with the anti-democratic AfD» is laying the ax on the independence of the public broadcasters and the stronghold of the coalition.

If so, it will show that the reactionary forces in the state CDU have prevailed and they see no business basis for the government alliance, added Greens parliamentary group leader Cornelia Lüddemann.

The CDU MPs are freely elected and they are free to reject the project, said the Green MP, Steffi Lemke.

However, the Christian Democrats would have to bear the consequences for their actions.

Lemke warned everyone involved not to jeopardize the coalition lightly.

"If a government dissolves in a pandemic situation, then that is definitely not good for democracy."

Lemke, Lüddemann and other speakers urged to do everything possible to persuade the CDU to give in.

"We are in the process of building golden bridges," said Agriculture Minister Claudia Dalbert.

It is conceivable to hold on to the criticism of public broadcasting through additional applications.

Nationwide, on January 1, 2021, the license fee is to rise for the first time since 2009, by 86 cents to 18.36 euros per month.

The plus was calculated by an independent commission, but has to be approved by all state parliaments.

The majority of the state parliaments have already agreed.

In Saxony-Anhalt the recommendation of the responsible media committee is due on December 2nd, and the decisive vote in parliament is planned for mid-December.

The black-red-green coalition is divided on the issue.

While the SPD and the Greens want to agree, Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff's CDU is against it.

Together with the AfD, which also wants to reject, it has a majority.

Haseloff announced that he wanted to get a joint vote by the coalition.

If the current attitudes remain, the premium increase is on hold.

It is likely that broadcasters will then call the Federal Constitutional Court.
