He works at the social administration in Kalmar and went on the ambulance because one of his caregivers needed to take him with him.

In addition to David Schmidinger, four sick and newly operated patients were sitting in the taxi bus.

- My first thought when he started driving was that something was wrong, his movement pattern in the bus was not like a driver usually does.

According to David Schmidinger, the driver was driving at high speed and made dangerous overtaking with oncoming traffic.

Dagens Vimmerby was the first to report on this.

- He first drove at 100 kilometers per hour on the 60-mile stretch and then he increased to 130 on the 80-mile stretch.

Overpowered the driver

David Schmidinger knew he was the only one on the bus who could do anything.

As he was sitting right behind the driver, he picked up his cap and held it in front of the phone when he called SOS Alarm as quietly as possible and told the alarm operator what was happening.

The police were called.

The conversation with SOS lasted 17 minutes.

Then David Schmidinger decided to stop the journey.

- Then I stood up behind the driver and shouted that he should stop the bus.

I held his neck tightly.

But the drama was not over there.

The driver got out of the bus, jumped over a game fence and ran into the woods.

The police patrols that got there started looking but could not find him.

Hours later, he himself contacted the police.

- He chooses to contact the police himself and he is now suspected of negligence in traffic, says Robert Loeffel, the police's press spokesperson.

The driver is not allowed to drive for KLT

KLT's traffic director Christer Holmgren regrets what has happened.

- It is very unfortunate and it is just to apologize.

We will work to ensure that this does not happen again.

The driver has now been fired.
