Brazilian observers recorded the moment a meteor entered the atmosphere and exploded over the sky over the Rio Grande do Sul region on the border between Brazil and Uruguay.

According to the director of the Southern District of the Brazilian Meteorite Monitoring Network, Carlos Fernando Young, the meteorite entered the Earth's atmosphere at an altitude of 103 kilometers and exploded at an altitude of 94.4 kilometers in just 1.05 seconds.

The meteorite explosion recorded an intensity of brightness of -7 degrees, and the number zero is the reference point specified for measuring the brightness of meteors during their explosion, and a negative number equates to a greater brightness of the meteorite.

"With the fall of this huge meteorite, it has been proven that the year 2020 has witnessed the largest number of large-sized meteors since the observatory began work in the southern region in 2016," Yong added to the local G1 website.

This phenomenon was observed by the Heller & Jung Space Observatory last Monday in the city of Takuara, which is 426.9 km from the site of the meteor explosion.
