To the chagrin of Catholics, Prime Minister Jean Castex has confirmed the maximum number of people for religious services.

A figure deemed "unrealistic" and "inapplicable" by Father Hugues de Woillemont, spokesperson for the Conference of Bishops of France.

INTERVIEW

Jean Castex confirmed it during a press conference: the maximum gauge for masses is indeed 30 people maximum, as Emmanuel Macron announced Tuesday evening.

The Prime Minister has thus dampened the hopes of believers, in particular Catholics who are preparing to celebrate the first Sunday of Advent.

"We are very disappointed", summarizes at the microphone of Europe 1 Father Hugues de Woillemont, spokesperson for the Conference of Bishops of France.

An "unrealistic" and "inapplicable" gauge

A disappointment to which is added a misunderstanding about this gauge.

"We are especially surprised by this gauge of 30 people that we had never asked for and which is really unrealistic", Judge Hugues de Woillemont.

"We do not know the reasons why this decision was taken. We do not know where this figure comes from, which above all is inapplicable."

A decision all the more difficult to accept as the French Church "proposes very scrupulous and very responsible protocols", recalls the spokesperson.

A meeting with Castex on Sunday evening

In this context, the father even believes that this gauge could be counterproductive: "Perhaps there will now be more impatience."

A feeling that Jean Castex will have to face on Sunday evening, during a new meeting with the Conference of Bishops of France.
