Homberg / Ohm (dpa / lhe) - The police started on Thursday with their A49 mission in the Dannenröder forest with the evacuation of a larger tree house camp by environmental activists.

The emergency services took people from trees or wooden structures, as a police spokesman reported.

The officials said on Twitter that there was also a structure made of “very thin ropes”.

A spokeswoman for A49 opponents said the camp was part of the "heart of the resistance" against the clearing in the Dannenröder forest.

For over a year, environmental and climate activists have occupied the forest near Homberg (Ohm) in order to oppose the tree felling for the further construction of Autobahn 49.
