Krummhörn (dpa / lni) - Firefighters in respiratory protection equipment have recovered six illegally disposed of canisters with an unknown substance in Krummhörn (district of Aurich).
A farmer discovered the canisters, some of which were in a stream and some on the bank, said a fire department spokesman on Thursday.
When the farmer opened a vessel, there was an unusual sound inside, like a chemical reaction.
Part of the substance got into the water, which is why the fire brigade called first put an oil barrier.
Then the plastic canisters were transported away in safety barrels.
An exact analysis of the substance is still pending.
