Berlin (dpa) - Those who visit their relatives in Berlin over Christmas can also stay in hotels.

"If it is a trip that is not of a tourist nature, then there is also an overnight stay in the hotels," said the governing mayor Michael Müller (SPD) on Thursday after a Senate meeting.

“But the starting point is different,” he adds.

"Staying at home is the urgent appeal, don't travel around."

But when it is necessary to visit family members, he assumes that this is not a tourist trip where you walk through the city, look at sights or go shopping.

Due to the corona pandemic, tourists are currently not allowed to stay in hotels. With its line with regard to visiting relatives at Christmas, Berlin joins the states of Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia - against the will of Chancellery Minister Helge Braun (CDU).
