It was on 18 November that Byggnads notified 1,400 construction workers across the country as of Friday 27 November.

According to the union, the reason for the dismissal was not the wage levels but the employers' "surprising reluctance" to address the problems with fatal accidents and work-related crime that have long plagued the industry.

According to Byggnads, they have also been heard for their concerns in the new agreement, which will give regional safety representatives greater access to construction sites, something that the union hopes will lead to less crime and safer workplaces.

- Giving the regional safety representatives increased access rights will not solve all problems in the construction industry, but it gives us the tools to make a real difference, says Johan Lindholm, Building Association's chairman.

The construction companies are also satisfied with the agreement.

- Our common goal has been to create an attractive, healthy and safe construction industry.

There is a strength to be able to solve difficult issues together, says Byggföretagen's CEO Catharina Elmsäter Svärd, who, however, adds that she thinks that these are issues that should be resolved without strike notice.

The new agreement, which provides wage increases of 5.4 percent over 29 months, applies from the first of December.
