Schönefeld (dpa / bb) - Almost four weeks after the opening of the new capital city BER airport, the operators want to limit the losses.

Due to the corona crisis, there are only a few flights left.

Airport boss Engelbert Lütke Daldrup therefore wants to shut down one of the three terminals from March.

The plan will be discussed in the board of directors today.

The main terminal of Willy Brandt Airport opened at the end of October nine years late.

In addition, Terminal 5 is the terminal building of the former GDR Schönefeld Airport.

It should initially close for a year.

It is also unclear when the new Terminal 2, which has not yet been used, will go online.

The number of passengers this year is only about a quarter of the record level of 2019. The board of directors will also discuss how high the losses of the state-owned company might be next year.

For this year, the federal government, Berlin and Brandenburg, as owners, are contributing 300 million euros to offset corona losses.
