Citizen Ahmed Laha Al Shehhi, a resident of Ras Al Khaimah, rescued a Greek tourist (36 years old), who strayed over Mount Qandous in the Ghalila area north of Ras Al Khaimah, the second highest mountain peak in the country, and the citizen found him by chance and returned him to his vehicle.

The Civil Defense Department honored the citizen for this initiative, and for presenting an honorable image to the people of the state.

Al-Shehhi told Emirates Today the story, saying: “With the onset of the rain, last week, I went up to the summit of Mount Qandous to practice the hobby of photographing and monitoring the rains. As soon as I reached the summit of the mountain, I felt a movement behind me, and I found a foreign tourist in a state of extreme fatigue and exhaustion, and suffering from scratches At his feet ».

He added that he immediately went to him and provided him with assistance in terms of water and food, and asked him why he was at the top of the mountain, and told him that he came from Dubai for the purpose of tourism and camping, but he lost his way and became exhausted and drowsy, and he ran out of food and drink.

Al-Shehhi added: “I tied his minor wounds to my sin, reassured him, and told him that I would help him get off the mountain and drive him to his vehicle safely.”

He continued: “We started descending towards Wadi Ghalila, and whenever the tourist feels tired, I encourage him and ask him to continue walking and descend before the increase in the rains, and upon reaching the bottom of the mountain, he informed me that he went up to the mountain from Wadi Shaam, which is more than five kilometers away, and I took him to his vehicle in the Shaam area ».

Al-Sayeh thanked Al-Shehhi for saving him from the top of the mountain and providing him with the required assistance.

The Director of the Civil Defense Department in Ras Al Khaimah, Brigadier General Muhammad Abdullah Al Zaabi, honored the citizen Ahmed Lahha Al Shehhi, for presenting an honorable picture of the people of the state in the rescue of the tourist, after he lost his way at the top of the mountain, provided him with the required assistance, dropped him from the place and drove him to the location of his vehicle.

Al-Zaabi said that such attitudes reflect the genuine metal of the sons of Zayed, who are keen to extend a helping hand to all those in need, based on their morals and upbringing.
