Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - If the Corona rules are violated, the police must, according to the Green politician Uli Sckerl, take more consistent action against the “lateral thinking” movement and also break up demonstrations.

"At first you could still allow tolerance," said the domestic policy spokesman for the Green parliamentary group of the dpa.

"But now the regulations on the mask requirement and to keep your distance are deliberately undermined."

The police fined hundreds of people, often young, for not wearing masks.

In the case of the “lateral thinkers”, however, they let violations of masks and distance go en masse, said Sckerl.

The movement and its leaders around the Stuttgart entrepreneur Michael Ballweg became increasingly radicalized, Sckerl warned.

"That turned into violence recently in Berlin and Leipzig."

It is not only right-wing extremists who join the "lateral thinkers" who are responsible for this.

"We are also seeing a new form of radicalization, we are seeing a part of society that is becoming more radical," said Sckerl.

The critics of the Corona requirements must be contradicted louder, more frequently and more consistently, demanded the Green politician.

This is especially true for people who are just beginning to be interested in the movement.

"If you have only been with us for a few weeks, you can hardly be reached for arguments," said Sckerl.

He observed a "rapid and almost sect-like isolation" of these people.

The Green politician is also the chairman of the parliamentary control body in the state parliament, which is meeting for a special session on December 3rd because of the risk of radicalization of the “lateral thinking” movement.

The body keeps an eye on the surveillance measures of the protection of the constitution.

Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) wants to inform the State Parliament's Interior Committee about initial findings on Wednesday (2 p.m.).

He also warns of the increasing influence of extremists and constitutional enemies in the ranks of the “lateral thinkers”.

The movement is fed by citizens of the Reich, self-administrators, right-wing extremists and conspiracy theorists who instrumentalized the demonstrators.

The Stuttgart entrepreneur Ballweg is behind the “lateral thinking 0711” initiative.

In recent months, he and offshoots of the movement have taken to the streets in numerous German cities against restrictions in the Corona crisis.

There were also counter-demonstrations.

A demonstration in Berlin at the end of August and a completely out of hand protest in Leipzig weeks ago caused a stir.

At least 20,000 “lateral thinkers” had gathered in the city center and after the rally broke up they had moved across the Leipziger Ring.

Although elevators are currently not allowed according to the Corona Protection Ordinance, the police let the crowd go.

In the end, people were dancing in the city center - nothing could be seen from the distance and masks.
