Erfurt (dpa / th) - In the process of a life-threatening attack with a spade on a senior citizen, the public prosecutor called for a prison sentence of thirteen and a half years in front of the Erfurt regional court on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, the 42-year-old defendant was guilty of attempted murder, a court spokesman said.

The man is said to have entered the house of a then 89-year-old in June 2019 and seriously injured her with a garden spade.

The elderly could only be saved with an emergency operation.

The public prosecutor's representative also pleaded for the German to be placed in a rehab facility.

Because of the high risk of repetition and flight, the arrest warrant against the accused should remain in force.

The joint plaintiff's representative joined the public prosecutor's request.

The 42-year-old's defender considered a four and a half year prison sentence for the burglary to be appropriate.

His client should be acquitted of the charge of attempted murder.

A verdict is expected on December 1st.
