An extremely perilous project has just ended for Notre-Dame de Paris.

The old scaffolding, damaged and which threatened the cathedral, was dismantled.

Now, a new era is opening in the restoration of the building, which should reopen on April 16, 2024.

A big step has been taken on the Notre-Dame de Paris site.

The dismantling of the old scaffolding that threatened the cathedral is now complete.

This securing operation ends six months of high-risk work.

It required 40,000 pieces of scaffolding and 200 tonnes of metal, which had to be dismantled.

These had to be removed delicately and as quickly as possible so as not to endanger the entire cathedral.

The first step was to secure the site using sensors and install metal beams to avoid the risk of collapse.

Rope access technicians, cradles and crane operators took turns for six months to descend into the heart of the burnt scaffolding.

This essential operation is now complete.

"A temporary umbrella" in the cathedral

"We are going to install a temporary umbrella to keep the transept crossing out of water, secure the birth of the vaults, continue the evacuation of the remains and the cleaning of the four vaults which were located near this damaged scaffolding", explains Jérémie Patrier. Leitus, spokesperson for the public establishment responsible for the restoration of Notre-Dame.

The date for the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris is still scheduled for April 16, 2024.
