Schwabmünchen (dpa / lby) - The week-long flight of a cow from the Unterallgäu has come to an abrupt end in Schwabmünchen.

A hunter shot the animal in consultation with the Augsburg district office, the police said on Wednesday.

Several attempts to recapture the cow had previously failed.

The animal was last seen several times on the roadside.

"If cars drive there in the fog at night and suddenly a cow is standing there, we may have dead," a spokesman explained the shooting down.

They wanted to avoid this risk.

An ox from Upper Bavaria that escaped from a slaughterhouse in Brunnen a week and a half ago has had more success in his escape.

According to a police spokesman, there was still no trace of the animal on Wednesday.
