Frenchman Charlie Dalin widened the gap with his compatriot Thomas Rettant, whom he had passed the day before to take the lead in the Vendée Globe, according to Tuesday's score at 0400 GMT.
Continuing its descent of the South Atlantic, Dalin (Apivia) is now 41.7 nautical miles (77 km) ahead of Rouillard (LinkedOut).
The duel between the two Frenchmen took place far ahead of Jean Le Cam (Yes We Cam!), Oldest of the race, third, almost 300 miles behind the first.
The French Kevin Escoffier (PRB) retains his 4th place.
The Welshman Alex Thomson (Hugo Boss), former leader of the race whose sailboat suffered serious damage during the night from Saturday to Sunday, fell to 7th place, overtaken by the German Boris Herrmann (Seaexplorer-Yacht Club de Monaco ) and the French Yannick Bestaven (Maître Coq IV).
The head of the fleet runs along a corridor which should lead it towards the Cape of Good Hope to reach the southern seas, which many sailors involved in this ninth edition do not yet know.
