Outgoing President Donald Trump gave the green light on Monday to the political transition process in view of the coming to power of Joe Biden.

For his part, the Democrat announced the first names of his government.

He will surround himself in particular with Antony Blinken, one of his faithful for twenty years.

Donald Trump has still not acknowledged his defeat but takes a step towards Joe Biden.

Three weeks after the US presidential election, the outgoing president ended up launching the political transition process on Monday, before the Democrat officially came to power on January 20.

Joe Biden's team will now be able to receive the six million dollars allocated to the transition process, access the various offices of the administration and obtain essential confidential information.

Antony Blinken, a follower of Joe Biden as secretary of state

For his part, the president-elect is already building his team.

He notably chose Antony Blinken as Secretary of State, roughly the equivalent in France of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This pillar of the Democratic Party for more than twenty years worked alongside Joe Biden in the Senate: he was already in charge of Foreign Affairs.

Antony Blinken then followed Joe Biden to the White House during Barack Obama's tenure.

He was Assistant Secretary of State for two years.

American leadership deemed "fundamental" by Blinken

"Either the United States is playing the role it has played for 75 years, as one of the countries that drives the building of institutions, the creation of norms and rules that govern the relationship between states, or, if this is not us, it will be someone else. But it will probably not be in a way to advance our interests and our values ", explained Antony Blinken, at Europe 1, during the presidential campaign.

"Either nobody does it and it will create a vacuum. Problems will manifest themselves much more than solutions. So American leadership is something fundamental," he said.

He moved with his mother to France when he was nine years old.

He then remained in the country until he obtained his baccalaureate.

Another figure in the Biden administration is getting attention: John Kerry.

The former secretary of state, also French-speaking, will be the special envoy on climate change.

Joe Biden has promised that upon his arrival at the Oval office, he will return to the Paris climate agreement.
