The Paris Bourse rose 1.33% at midday, surpassing the 5,500 point mark thanks to Donald Trump's first step towards Joe Biden since his defeat in the presidential election in early November.

The CAC 40 index advanced 73.18 points to 5,565.33 points around 1:45 p.m.

The day before, it had fallen by 0.07%.

The trend is similar in European markets, with Frankfurt gaining 0.99%, London 1.19% and Milan 1.42%.

The performance of the Parisian market is all the more significant since the luxury companies, heavyweights of the rating, are in decline, like Hermès (-1.29% to 825 euros).

US market futures are also upbeat.

The Dow Jones was up 1.08% in pre-session trading, the broad S&P 500 index 0.81% and the tech-colored Nasdaq 0.34%.

After the announcement of the outgoing US president, who agreed to start the transfer of power to Joe Biden, "market sentiment has been revived" notes Pierre Veyret, technical analyst at ActivTrades.

This inflection allows investors "to look to the future, by opening bets on the Biden administration" for example on "improving relations" with China, explains Mr. Veyret.

In addition, the anticipated appointment to the Treasury Secretariat of Janet Yellen, former president of the US Federal Reserve, is seen by the markets as a good sign towards "the adoption by Congress of a new package of fiscal measures to support the economy, ”notes Franklin Pichard, CEO of Kiplink Finance.
