Lübeck (dpa / lno) - More than 500 customs officers searched the premises of a scaffolding company in several federal states at the same time on Tuesday.

A 38-year-old managing director of the company is suspected of withholding a considerable amount of social security contributions since August 2016, the public prosecutor in Lübeck and the main customs office in Itzehoe (Steinburg district) announced on Tuesday.

As a result, according to the current state of affairs, the social security funds suffered damage of around 300,000 euros.

In addition, the accused are said to have smuggled foreign workers into the Federal Republic on a commercial basis and defrauded the social security funds of the construction industry.

According to the press release, the suspects have been investigated for a long time.

According to the information, objects in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin were searched.

A total of around 50 search warrants were carried out.

Extensive evidence and assets were secured.

The statement said that the first interrogations of the accused and witnesses had already taken place.

The authorities did not provide any further information because of the ongoing investigation.
