Ahnatal (dpa / lhe) - Today in Ahnatal in northern Hesse, the new mayor is decided by lottery.

In the community with 8100 inhabitants there was a stalemate in a runoff election for the post of town hall chief on Sunday.

Incumbent Michael Aufenanger (CDU) and challenger Stephan Hänes (SPD) each received 2106 votes.

According to the Hessian municipal code, the lot then decides.

According to election supervisor Dieter Semdner, the decision by lot should take place on Tuesday evening at the meeting of the municipal election committee, provided that the latter confirms the election result beforehand.
