Hamburg (dpa / lno) - A good four weeks before Christmas Eve, places in the Christmas service can be reserved at many Protestant parishes in Hamburg.

Around 80 percent of the congregations in the Hamburg-West / Südholstein and Hamburg-Ost church districts worked with registrations, explained a church spokeswoman.

You can register via the Internet, by email or by phone.

Many congregations offer several shortened services to give a larger number of people the opportunity to visit.

It is not yet clear whether all interested parties will get a place.

In fact, several Christ Vespers in the Michel are already “sold out”, as it says on the community's website.

A spokeswoman said that there are currently still tickets for the services at 12 noon, 1 p.m. and 11 p.m.

However, only the 12 noon Christvesper takes place in the Michel, the other two services in the open air on the church square.

So far, the community has only offered 200 places each, a total of 1600 on Christmas Eve.

If the Hamburg Senate and the North Church do not set a specific upper limit, even more tickets could possibly be awarded.

The church spokeswoman recommended switching to other congregations in the area if a particularly popular service was fully booked.

The resurrection congregation in Hamburg-Lurup is planning a church service in the stadium in order to be able to admit more visitors.

The Markus community in Hohenhorst / Rahlstedt has chosen a daycare area, a parking lot and a driveway to a retirement home as event locations.

Most Catholic parishes also use a registration system.

Two church services in Hamburg's Mariendom are to be celebrated on Christmas Eve on the forecourt, namely those at 12 noon and 1.30 p.m., as a spokesman for the archdiocese said.

Two other services will take place in the church, as will the Christmas mass at 11 p.m. with Archbishop Stefan Heße.

While there is normally room for 500 people in the Mariendom, there are only 80 to 90 people if the distance rules are observed. Because of the limited capacity, many Catholic parishes also want to celebrate several services.

Archbishop Heße stated that the goal was that everyone who wanted to attend a service could do so.
