Berlin (dpa) - In the first month after the opening, nine take-offs and nine landings with state guests from abroad were welcomed and bid farewell at the new Schönefeld government terminal.

For political and parliamentary operations, the airport was used for four take-offs and six landings, as a spokesman for the Air Force announced on request.

"The currently operated interim government terminal has so far met the requirements of the Air Force for order fulfillment," it said.

The new government terminal belongs to the new capital city BER and was put into operation around a week before it opened.

Since then, ministers and government employees have been traveling from there or receiving state guests.

Previously, government operations had been handled via the old government terminal at the former Tegel Airport.

The Bundeswehr helicopters will remain there until 2029 and will be stationed in the military part of the airport in the north of Berlin until then.

According to the spokesman, the reason is the lack of necessary infrastructure at BER.

It started operations at the end of October around nine years late.
