Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia's municipalities will receive an additional 200 million euros from the state in the coming year, half of which will flow directly into their coffers without earmarking.

The red-red-green minority coalition and the CDU as its stability partner agreed on Tuesday in Erfurt.

“This means that the municipalities can decide on a large part of the money themselves.

That was one of our central demands, ”said CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt.

In total, the municipalities received more than 1.4 billion euros in direct key allocations in the coming year - the highest amount in years, according to Voigt.

The Left, SPD and Greens actually wanted to make part of the additional money available through programs as investment funds. The parliamentary group leader of the Left, Susanne Hennig-Wellsow, called the agreement a breakthrough in the budget negotiations that have been going on for weeks. The coalition factions and the CDU had taken an important step towards each other "to enable the state budget to be passed before Christmas". This would give the municipalities stability in their finances even in the Corona crisis. 80 million euros were used to compensate for business tax losses.
